Help Build the 1st Educational and Cultural Resource Center on Slavery in Washington DC.
Fundraising goal:$500,000
ASTI has identified a distressed property in the North East section of Washingtion, DC strategically located near Capital Hill, our seat of government, and within the Trinidad section of ward 8; a challenging community where local residents would have easy access to a world-class resource center. The Founder is prepared to donate the building if ASTI can raise the funds for renovation.
The idea behind the Resource Center is to provide an interactive educational space for visitors and residents to come and learn about Slavery. ASTI's intention is to build a first class facility that will offer a library with over 10,000 books on Africa and Africans throughout the world. The Educational and Cultural Resource Center will feature a computer lab where visitors can access the internet, and students can engage in on-line educational resources. The center will feature cooking facilities and several bedrooms for international guests. The Educational and Cultural Resource Center will also feature a world-class African Art gallery exhibiting African antiquities from throughout the continent of Africa.
We hope that visitors to our city, will come to the Educational and Cultural Resource Center and learn about slavery. As Americans we believe we must teach the world about our history and share the many lessons learned from the “peculiar institution” to ensure that slavery never happens again.
The Educational and Cultural Resource Center is a 10 minute car ride from our Nations Capital. We look forward to partnering with the many museums and government agencies throughout our nation's capital. Our vision is one of openness, inclusiveness, and leading edge technology to foster discussion and begin the process of healing that is so desperately needed both intra-racially and inter-racially.
It is in the spirit of all those Africans that were taken from Africa and suffered during the Middle Passage and were enslaved throughout the Americas that we solicit your financial support to assist us in making the Resource Center a reality.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible financial contribution to the purchasing and renovation of the 1st Educational and cultural resource center on Slavery please send your check to 19 S Street, NW Washington, DC 20001or contact us here at ASTI. Make all checks payable to the Atlantic Slave Trade Institute.
We thank you for your support and look forward to you participating in one of our many workshops abroad or on our Slave Tours of Washington, DC.
Thank you. |
